This artifact is the Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats Analysis. It was completed to examine the level of technology integration in GACA. ISTE’s Eight Essential Conditions were used as the starting point for the e SWOT analysis for Georgia Connections Academy (GACA) Middle School. GACA is a state-wide virtual charter school. As a middle school teacher, I collaborated with the school principals, lead teachers, and cohort colleagues to gather information for completing the SWOT Analysis. I gathered and researched information specifically connected to GACA and analyzed the results according to the Essential Conditions framework. This project was completed as a class assignment with and individual focus on GACA.
The SWOT analysis of GACA is aligned with the elements of design, development, implementation, communication and evaluation aspects of strategic planning in Standard 1.2. The design and development of the SWOT analysis begin with the guidance of the ISTE Essential conditions. Implementation of the SWOT analysis included my researching the connection between the Essential Conditions and GACA current practices. It also included my communication and collaboration with various stakeholders at GACA such as administrators, lead teachers and peers. Communication took the form of Google Form surveys, Emails and Hangout communications. Communication with the various stakeholders was essential to evaluating the alignment of ISTE Essential conditions with the current practices as GACA. The School Improvement Plan underway at GACA included several key strategies to gather data which helps with the evaluation of the school technology integration.
Completing this artifact resulted in learning in multiple areas. During the completion of the SWOT analysis, I learned who to reach out to for relevant information, which increased my communication and collaboration skills. I learned how to organize information I researched into the correlating SWOT analysis sections. Using the Essential Conditions framework, I learned how to analyze and summatively evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of the technology utilization at GACA. In order to improve the quality of the artifact, I would collaborate more with GACA stakeholders on compiling and developing the Opportunities and Threats of the use of information and communication technology to facilitate the approaches to learning. I would also collaborate more with administrators on developing in more detail the listed Weaknesses and Opportunities related to the shared vision for educational technology among school personnel, students, parents, and the community
The work that went into creating the artifact impacted school improvement, faculty development and student learning. School improvement was impacted by articulating the purposeful integration of Math XL and USA TestPrep and SuccessMaker. In order to effectively integrate these technology-based programs, faculty members need to be trained on how to correctly use the programs. Math XL, USA TestPrep and SuccessMaker are technology-based programs that are used to enhance and remediate student learning. The impact of the School Improvement Plan, Faculty Development and student learning can be assessed with the resulting improvement in scores on benchmarks, post-tests in the technology-based programs and scores on the Georgia Milestones.
