The Field Trip Flyer, Question and Comments Pages on WebQuest, and LMS Message Board are artifacts for Standard 3.7. The purpose of the Field Trip Flyer was to announce the field trip school wide. The purpose of the Comments Page on the WebQuest is for questions and comments related to the WebQuest. The Purpose of the LMS Message Board is for school families to learn current information for 7th grade Social Studies. I created the field trip flyer and comments page for the WebQuest, I developed and updated the LMS Message Board.
Standard 3.7: Communication & Collaboration, established the expectations that the artifact displays my ability to use communication and collaboration tools to communicate locally and globally with students, parents, peers, and the larger community. After communicating with my learning teammates, I created the field trip flyer in Canva and shared it with my students. I also collaborated with the school administrative assistant to communicate information about the field trip with the entire student body and their families. The administrative assistant used ParentSquare to distribute the flyer digitally to the entire student body and family from grades 6-12. The flyer included a link to RSVP for the Field Trip. When I created the Where in the World is the Explorer? WebQuest, I wanted students, parents and anyone who viewed the WebQuest to be able to communicate with me or leave a comment. So, I created a help survey on the Process page of the WebQuest, so students and parents could communicate with me with questions or concerns and a Comments survey on the Evaluation page, so peers and the larger community could communicate with me. The survey responses are sent to my email. Our school recently began using Google to host a school-wide Google Drawing Message Board. Each grade level and learning team develops and hosts their own Message Board as well. I develop and update the 7th grade Social Studies Message Board. I communicate and collaborate with my learning teammates on the needed updates and we via the Message Board communicate with our 7th grade students and their families. The Message Board is accessible to anyone with the link and access to the internet. I also develop and update my 7th grade Social Studies class Message Board in our LMS. It communicates information with students and families on a broad range of categories from course syllabus and links to class session recordings to instructions on how to use USA TesPrep and Georgia Milestones Assessment information. In addition to these forms of communication, I also communicate and collaborate with my peers using Google Hangouts, Email, Forms, our Google Drive and Adobe Connect. I also communicate with my students and their families via our LMS closed system webmail, via phone and via Adobe Connect synchronous sessions.
While creating the Flyer, I learned how to create a link in the Canva creation to a Google Form. I also learned that the links do not work when sent via ParentSquare. When creating the comments survey on the WebQuest I learned that there are a limited number of questions that could be created on the free version of the survey in Weebly. I learned that the changes on the Google Message Board, unlike our LMS Message Board, are instant and families are able to see your errors instantly too. In order to improve the quality of the or process, I would have researched ParentSquare better and would not have included the RSVP link. It led to numerous calls and webmails from families who were confused about the RSVP process.
The work that went into creating the artifact impacted faculty development. Faculty development was impacted because I along with colleagues learned about various professional skills during our Hangout and Adobe Connect sessions. We also learned more about communication strategies during our collaboration. The impact on faculty development was assessed with via our use of the various communication modalities with our students, families, colleagues and the larger community.
