Reflection:
This artifact is the shared vision what was used for Georgia Connections Academy (GACA) Middle School. It is a state-wide virtual charter school. This vision includes decreasing the number of beginning learner students. As a middle school teacher, I collaborated with the lead teachers. We looked forward to implementing it this year.
As I began to develop the shared vision for GACA Middle School, I collaborated with administrators and lead teachers. During the development of the shared vision the principal explained the preliminary goals for school improvement and this information was used in the development of finalized shared vision. The implementation plan for the shared vision included collaboration with administrators, teachers and software providers. Implementing the shared vision required constant communication between stakeholders to ensure efficiency and effectiveness.
During the completion of this artifact I interacted more with the school leadership and administrators. I learned that to understand the school vision, discussions with administrators and stakeholders need to occur to facilitate efficient implementation of quarterly benchmarks and appropriate interventions. To improve the quality of the artifact I would have researched and collaborated to develop long-term goals for the school in addition to the short term 1-year goal.
The work that went into creating the artifact impacted school improvement and student learning. The artifact impacted professional development by providing a targeted purpose for professional development for teachers. We knew exactly why we were receiving professional development on Test Pad, Math XL and USA TestPrep and how the professional development would impact the school vision. By teachers using the skills learned in professional development, they were able to implement the student assessments and remediation plans. The artifact impacted student learning by providing a means to assess student knowledge and skills and providing a means to remediate areas where students did not show appropriate growth.
