Reflection:
The artifact I am using for Standard 6.3 Field Experiences is the Unstructured Field Experience Log for as a part of the requirements for ITEC 7460. The purpose of the field experience is to document my participation in activities outside of scheduled course assignments that aligned with NETS-C and PSC Instructional Technology Standards. I contributed by demonstrating my professional knowledge in instructional technology while developing an online assessment and coaching a colleague.
Standard 6.3 Field Experiences, establishes the expectation for appropriate field experiences to synthesize and apply the content and professional knowledge, skills, and dispositions identified in these standards. During the Unstructured Field Experience for ITEC 7460, my colleague and I determined that there was a need to reassess students on a unit of study. I took the leadership role and researched the standards that needed to be assessed. Based on my research and available resources, I determined that the alternate assessment should be completed in USA TestPrep. I created the assessment and then modeled how to create and facilitate the implementation of the assessment for my colleague in Adobe Connect. Once the assessment results were available I analyzed the assessment results with my colleague and we determined the appropriate strategies for feedback and remediation where needed.
I learned that research is required before determining the next steps in any process. I learned that practicing a skill is needed before coaching another person on how to complete an online task or learn a new online skill. The artifact could be improved with more details on how the assessment was differentiated for students.
The work that went into creating the Field Experience impacted faculty development and student learning. Faculty members learned how to create and implement an alternate online assessment for students and student learning occurred by learning how to complete an alternate assessment to display content mastery. This faculty development can be assessed by metrics detailing teacher use of USA TestPrep. Impact on student learning can be assessed by score on alternate assessment compared to score on original assessment.
